The importance of growing your own food and sustainability
_ Working the soil and growing vegetables automatically connects us to the process of food production. It helps us understand how much energy and time it takes to make the precious food we eat.
Engaging with this process can connects us to a fundamental process that is so often overlooked. This perspective can help us understand the energetic and environemntal cost of the food we eat and engender a sympathetic relationship towards our planet and inspire us towards living more sustainably for the wellbeing of ourselves and our earth and it's ecosystems that supports us.

Work days Tuesdays 12-4pm at the Hanover community centre.
We welcome everyone, come along if you are interested in growing your own food or are just looking for a friendly community to share some time with.
You can bring new ideas and get as involved as you like - we always welcome new faces to our work days and are happy for people to take up a more involved role in organising and being a core volunteer.
We provide tea and some biscuits but feel free to bring along some snacks to share.

Any donations please
We are a small community project and like to try to keep our lovely community VEG going on the steam of the community, we have gradually managed to get bits and bobs from kind givers all over the place and feel it builds a real sense of the community in our community garden. If you have any space anythings garden related: tools, seeds, plants, soil, sheds, refreshments, ideas etc and would like to donate them our VEG, we would recieve it with much grattitude. Please get in touch if you have anything to offer.

Compost
Composting is essential for any vegetable garden. We have built a great compost bin, local residents drop off their organic kitchen waste and we add in our garden greens too. Its the most sensible way to dispose of kitchen waste whilst at the same time creating compost for growing our juicy vegetables, a perfect cycle!! Free free to bring your organic kitchen waste, if your unsure what can be included get in touch and we will let you know.
_The Harvest from the VEG will go to volunteers that participate on work days and towards future free community educational events that we will run for the public to raise awarness about sustainability, growing and food related issues.
