Can't stomach any more plastic? Public Meeting 7:30pm 15th February The Southover (upstrs)
Hanover Action would like to see Hanover and Elm Grove move towards being a plastic free community - celebrate those shops and pubs that make a plastic free pledge and encourage more businesses to take those actions. Would you like to get involved?
Come to a public meeting 7:30pm Thursday 15th February upstairs at the Southover Pub.
All welcome

Sat. 18 June, 11-1pm, One Planet Living Workshop - 'Land Use & Wildlife' at the Moulsecoomb Forest Garden.
With twelve arriving by bike or walking to this hidden space we arrived by 11am, for a talk about this local wildlife project by Warren Carter, and reflections on what could be achieved in Hanover & Elm Grove taken forward in a group discussion with by Kristoffer Hewitt (Natural England, & Sussex Wildlife Trust) and Marian (Natural England).
We considered how we could "re-wild" and make a healthy green urban environment, helping to counter local air pollution, and improve personal and collective well-being with greener landscape. Issues of flooding and the opportunities presented by the parking developments in Hanover & Elm Grove all were considered. Tree planting and bird boxes were a keen focus along the positive impact that green roofa dn growing walls could make, and finally the need for a full audit of the green spaces that exist or could be created in our community.
Building upon the Vision set out at our launch workshop, our action planning was then taken forward with informed and enthusiastic discussion to create a more sustainable natural environment, part of our Action Plan for One Planet Living in Hanover & Elm Grove.

Positive Energy- A HASL Public Meeting, with Dr Caroline Lucas (local MP), Dr Colin Nolden (Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand, SPRU, University of Sussex) and Ollie Pendered (Community Energy South)
Friday 21st March, 7:30-9:00pm
The Hanover Community Centre, 33 Southover Street, BN2 9UD
Looking at positive actions and policies to expand renewable energy and reduce fuel poverty. Focussing on the national policy context at first (Caroline), we move to the technical innovations in energy generation and supply (Colin), and then to the opportunities to scale up community level deployment of renewables in the region (Ollie).
To help inspire you to act positively too, we have our local Brighton Energy Cooperative (BEC) and Brighton Energy Services Co. (BHESCo) on hand.
Also: Come along from 5:00pm-7:30pm to try out an electric bike, and see a hybrid car in the Community Centre garden.
Interested in renewable energy?
Ollie Pendered is one of the founder members of Community Energy South a network of Community Energy organisations brought together to grow community energy and share best practice across the region. During 2013-14 he has worked with Brighton & Hove Council on the Your Warm Home project supporting fuel poverty across the City. He founded the Barcombe Energy Group where he is currently leading a district heating project to get the village off oil dependancy, as Director of Ovesco in Lewes he is developing the Community Energy Peer Mentoring Programme, and is Communities Director for the Brighton Energy Services Co. (BHESCo)
BHESCo will also be around to help and encourage you to switch your home energy supplier to a renewable supplier, providing you with a free "energy bag" if you switch to Ecotricity, and provide free energy advice and explanation of the benefits of community energy. BHESCo is a co-operative dedicated to help people lower their energy costs by installing renewable energy and energy efficiency measures on a pay as you save model.  Everything they do is for the benefit of the community. The commission received from your switch to Ecotricity is invested in taking action against fuel poverty in Brighton & Hove is a ring fenced fund.
Attending on the night will be Brighton Energy Coop  who are just about to complete its latest share offer, which is raising £240,000 from members of the local community to fund a solar energy array at Shoreham Port. This will generate green electricity for Brighton and Hove and gives investors a 5% return per annum. Anyone can invest. Come to along to talk to BEC director Will Cottrell about the benefits of community-funded renewable energy, and how you can get involved. To find out more, visit brightonenergy.org.uk and/or talk to Will on the night.
